Wireless

I am typing this from my bedroom upstairs - and that's because I bought a 4-port wireless D-Link modem/router from LYP for rm280. I went to Telekom Malaysia today to return the modem that was included with my streamyx package. I plan to upgrade my 512kbps line to 1Mbps. I figure since I have this D-Link, my father and I could use the Internet at the same time. Also, I can work from my room. To my surpise, the upgrade of the line is as simple as filling out a form. The line will be upgraded in 5 working days.. and because I have been a loyal subscriber, TM asked me to keep the old DSL modem! Cool! Now I have a backup in case the D-Link got fried.

Bash

This afternoon, my colleagues gave me a 'surprise' birthday bash. I quote the word surprise because they wanted to do something for me but the organizer sent email to the team, including me! So I knew abt the birthday bash and what not. However, they were very creative. Since I apparently knew about the birthday celebration, they asked people from outside my team, friends that I have made in the company, to bring the cake in and sang the birthday song. That, I was not prepared for. It is nice to see Alpinesis, his gf and Sean coming into the office with a nice birthday cake. Monica, NLK and Emily were invited but they all are stuck in another meeting. Nevertheles, I thought that was creative.. there were almost 40 or 50 people who came! Can you imagine that! I think this is the biggest crowd ever for a birthday party. I am happy. Didn't know I was so popular. Hmmm... The team brought me a Borders gift voucher because they know I love to read. When I saw that, I commented t

No Tips. Learn on the Job.

I wrote about NLK before. This morning, she sent me an IM. She asked me if I am keeping something from her. I knew that she heard about my promotion so I think she's playing with me. I told her you must be asking about my promotion. She said "ya lor.. how come never tell?" I said, well, it was just announced. Then I asked if she has any tips. She said "No tips. Learn on the job!" Somehow I felt offended by that remark. And I thought about what I heard from the rumour mill - about how unpopular NLK is, as a manager. At one time, she had a very high staff turnover and some other managers were asked to counsel her staff, to act as a middle person, to find out what happened. I am glad NLK didn't share any of her "tips". It would not have added any value :P

Updates

I have been pretty busy lately. It's hard juggling all these balls, trying to keep them in the air: work, girlfriend, family, friends, colleagues, health, IM, gaming, blogging, etc. Some of these balls, I have to drop. So I dropped the rubber ones - those that will bounced back later - IM, blogger and gaming. I still make time for the rest so I think I am doing good so far. Some quick updates: 1. I celebrated Anne's 28th birthday. I ordered a dozen of roses and sent it to her office. She did not expect this at all - coz I used to surprise her once a while by sending flowers, even though there are no special occassions so she told me one time, point blank, that it is a waste of money and asked me not to send her any. She did not expect that I'd send them to her on her bday (DUH!)... anyway, she had a good time. Lots of colleagues dropping by her office in envy. I took her for a nice dinner in our favourite sushi restaurant. We had a good time. It may not be as good as last y

Kicked Out

Today, I removed Anti Ringgit from my speed dial #5. I hardly call him these days. He's being replaced by Anne's office number, her mobile number being speed dial #2. Poor AR getting unpopular these days, eh?

Google Browser Sync

Google has a  new Firefox extension called Google Browser Sync. It is pretty cool. From Google blog: Google Browser Sync is a “Firefox extension that keeps your browser settings for all your computers in sync. Google Browser Sync unifies your bookmarks, history, saved passwords, and persistent cookies across all the computers where you install it. It also remembers which tabs and windows you had open when you last closed any of your browsers and gives you a chance to reopen them. We think you'll enjoy how it handles sync conflicts and "just works," enabling you to bring your browser with you everywhere.”
